Crown Thinning Out

Leaves in the crown appear less abundant than usual.

The crown of an African Violet may appear to thin out for a number of reasons. To further elaborate on the symptom you are seeing, look closely at the crown, and compare it to the descriptions below. Select the one the best describes what you are seeing.

• Leaves in the crown have elongated stems (rangy). Because these newer leaves are growing out and away from the crown, the crown appears to have very few leaves.
• Leaves in the crown appear smaller than normal. Because these leaves are smaller, the crown appears not as full as it usually is.
• Leaves in the crown are tight. Because these leaves are curling up and growing together, the crown appears to have fewer leaves than normal.
